Feng shui is neither hard to implement or difficult to understand. As soon as you understand the basic principles, you’ll see that feng shui is a very sensible way to deal wit your relationship with your surroundings and your home.

The most important thing to remember is that the philosophy is based on living in harmony with your surroundings. While living in balance and equilibrium with the planet, its rivers and mountains, your life will feel calmer and more harmonious. Going against the grain, so to speak, causes more energy to be exerted and as a result the natural environment works against you.

The Basic Principles and Symbols of Feng Shui

As someone just starting out, it’s very important to understand the basic principles of how Feng Shui relates to the space or area that we live in such as our homes or offices before we include time into the equation.

The best place to start is by understanding the symbols and the concepts of Feng Shui. There are really onto two concepts that you will need to understand and they are

  • The concept of cosmic breath, “Chi”, referred to as “Energy” by the West.
  • The five elements that make up the world and their direct relationship to each other.

There are also symbols which you will come to know and the most common of these are

  • The Pa Kua
  • The Eight trigrams of the I Ching
  • The Lo Shu magic square.

These principles and symbols are universal to Feng Shui, no matter what school you choose to follow. They are very important for your understanding how the Chinese perceive the world and how the universal energy affects every human beings destiny.
